Haiti Earthquake - August 14, 2021
Around 8:30 AM on Saturday August 14, 2021, a devastating earthquake was felt in Haiti once again, destroying human lives and buildings in its southern peninsula. The 7.2 Magnitude quake was more powerful than the one that occurred 11 years ago on January 12, 2010, when approximately 300,000 people lost their lives. Based on preliminary investigations, authorities reported over 1,300 deaths and thousands of people wounded. Earthquakes and natural disasters are unfortunately common in Haiti, due to the geography and geology of the country.

The 8/14 earthquake has dramatically amplified the suffering, stress, and terror Haitians have been living under for a long time. When this terrible tragedy took place, people were still trying to make sense of the July terrorist attack that killed the country’s sitting president in his private residence earlier.

Just like Job in the Bible, Haiti goes from one type of suffering to another with literally no room to breathe in between. But unlike those who visited Job and tried to blame him for his own misery, we are looking at Haiti with love and compassion, especially knowing that “…those who don’t love their brothers or sisters whom they have seen can hardly love God whom they have not seen…” (1 John 4:20)

Our approach to this recent tragedy is no different from how we have been serving people in Haiti for the last several years, although the urgency is far greater now. Doxa’s mission, Glorifying God by Serving the Poor, remains our guiding principle as we continue to stand with Haiti in this difficult time.

We are in constant contact with several pastors and other leaders working with people in the affected areas, and our financial support will certainly make a huge difference. As soon as we have relevant pictures and other information, we will publish a report outlining the impact of Doxa’s assistance.

Stay tuned, and may God bless you and yours!
